new car = new bike rack we had a sh*tload of REI bucks/rewards so she got a kuat sherpa FREE bitches! I know i know there are a bazillion better ones out there but we were looking for something that didn't weigh 10,000 lbs and wasn't priced into the stratosphere and what they had available at REI
Not exactly new... :? But new to us 2012 Mercedes GL 350 Bluetech We did upgrade the rack this afternoon to the kuat nv "black" since the Sherpa rack was back ordered hopefully it will show up at the end of this month.
send him a PM perhaps he could be persuaded out of it i told him that i can't officially sell it till the new rack gets here from REI and the ETA from them is the 22nd i offered the rack and extender to a person that was "looking" for a hitch mount four bike rack last week for the same $200 and they had to "think about it"...
So how do you like the new ride? What was your argument to her to get her to move up to a nicer ride? Or is this your car?
I've not driven it other than to fill it up last week... Argument was she has been driving a Honda Element since 2003 and perhaps it might be time to look at something else. What she wanted was more or less a mini-Van not a truck size SUV but not a car that can hold bikes inside AND last at least a decade AND get good mileage. We drove a Range Rover HSE and sport however it was "too big" (that's what she said) and it wasn't diesel that narrowed it down to the GL 350 or the Audi Q7 diesel. Her bike will fit with the seats down my bike will have to be disassembled therefore the hitch rack for when we go places to ride. This is her car the F450 is gone and I'm in the Chevy Tahoe these days the GL has a 400 page owners manual and another 300 page manual just for the radio/gps that I've yet to tackle as currently I'm banned from touching her new "fancy" car  unless it needs to filled up or washed other wise GTFO. No worries she will leave her sweaty yoga stuff in the black interior in the summer at it will soon smell like the gym locker Honda Element soon enough.
Range Rover was eliminated the minute she wanted something that lasts longer than a month - assuming what she meant is it isn't in the shop every other week.
Well she was content to drive the Honda till it died however we know a few folks that had to rush out and buy a car because the car they had forever with a gajillion miles on it died or needed more repairs than it was worth. I think all the issues we had with the money pit F450 and that I just dumped a big wad of cash into this tahoe new rotors, struts, bushings, engine mounts, belts etc... to keep it rolling was the wake up call for her on looking at something. The Range Rover was the bomb and I didn't look like an senior citizen behind the wheel as I do in the mercedes but for a long term vehicle the diesel GL fit what she felt comfortable with. All the American SUVs are either truck base chassis or too small I voted for the SRT Jeep but even used they are pricey. These diesel GL 350 are hard to find and don't stick around on dealer lots long when you can find them as we found out the hard way.
Been there done that with the F-450 and know all to well that ANYTHING that goes wrong with a ford 6.4 diesel is a minimum of $900 computer goes out $1000, rear differential $900, fuel injector $1000, radiator $1100, set of tires 6 = $2100, brake job on a 1.5 ton truck $1000, water pump $900 etc...etc... A conservative estimate would be that I dumped a good twelve thousand into that truck since 2010 and know what the ford dealers look like in Shreveport, durango, Tyler, Farmington, del rio and tommy Vaughn and Mack haik along with houston powerstroke. You can't scare me with the maintenance boogie men on this.
Ha! My little '02 Tacoma is nice to my wallet too. That damn dam thing is still worth $8k. Somewhat related: Just for fun, I rotated my tires Friday night. :] I know... horrible pic. I blame SML
Sadly, after 216k miles, this may be the last week for my 01 Sequoia. [taps] My FIL is getting a new car and I just can't pass up his offer to buy his 2012 (esp. since I know it's been driven very easy).
