Anyone here read a lot? I know @Shortrider does... and at the time I learned this I thought he was a nerd, but now all I do is read. Mostly just sc-fi or survival/post-apocalyptic novels though. I've read quite a few over the past 8 months or so, and had a pretty long thread going on my gaming forums with my reviews of each. Would love to keep it going here if there's others with similar interests. I'm almost done with the Hyperion Cantos series, and will jump into Wool next.
I read a lot but mostly non-fiction -- Hobby stuff, interests, business, leadership, investing, and other crap like that.
Ewwwwww.... screw that J/k, I read a lot of that kind of stuff too, but doubtful anyone wants to read my reviews on non-fiction books
I highly recommend The Martian. I couldn't put it down and read it in a day. As an engineer I appreciated the more plausible science compared to most sci-fi.
Shit, The Martian has some amazing reviews. I'll give that one a go maybe before I delve into Wool, since that one is a series. BTW, when searching for The Martian, Red Rising came up as well. If you haven't read that Trilogy (last book will be released this coming January), it's phenomenal. The second was even better than the first, and was literally floored when it ended...it had me dazed for a couple days wondering how the fk I would last until January. Thanks for the recommendation though, I'll post up a review of that one, along with my review of the Hyperion Cantos series (which I highly recommend) when i'm finished.
I read a lot, I get in around 2 hours a day... I read lots of sci-fi but am currently on a binge of classic horror novels. Just finished Frankenstein and am reading Dracula right now. I have The Vampyre, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Bulfinch's Mythology up next. Once I get through those (hopefully by end of July) I'm likely going to dive into the Hugh Howey Wool series. My sci-fi favorite authors are: Alastair Reynolds John Scalzi Larry Niven Marko Kloos (newish guy, only three books out)
I went back to some of my old favorite from high school and reread all of them. The political and philosophical messages were much easier to understand. Foundation series Dune (semi-infinite) series
I just saw this thread. I read all sorts of stuff but my favorite is fantasy. Riftwar saga (about 17 books total) is one of my favorites but Dragonlance series is the best. I also like to read W.E.B. Griffin novlels like presidential agent series. Chad gave me a book recently called Ready Player One that you would like Stokke.
Just finished Wool...great book, I'm definitely going to dive into the rest of the series before picking up The Martian. The book kinda reminds me of Maze Runners, lots of action and death in a psychologically intense setting. For those that liked Wool, I highly suggest the Maze Runners trilogy (unless u watched the shitty movie). For those not too into reading, Wool was definitely an easy read, you'll fly through it and it'll keep you entertained. Definitely recommend.
I finished Brahm Stroker's Dracula yesterday. It was good, not as enjoyable as Frankenstein though... and, for me, it was much harder to read than Frankenstein. I've got Wool and Shift coming in the mail today and can't wait to get started on them.
I just read the first 2 books (third book not out in paperback yet) of a series called "The kingkiller Chronicle" Patrick Rothfuss. Fantasy but definitely a must read.
I'm still planning on reading that one. I'm on Shift, the second book in the Wool series. It's better than the first...
