I'm on the training plan for mid-Oct but Harvey and family vacation put me back a step. Either way, planning on CAT4 and AG dominance! Blue and I are doing local practice sessions down in SL as neither of us can get to SECTS easily. Should have my pacing figured out by the first HTXCX race in Oct 14. -Wooooooooo!!!!!!!
I've been quietly getting back on the bike to try and get some CX fitness. We will see how it goes, it will be more of a work in progress / race into shape project for a while. Hoping to peak at the right time this year... I will say that with a nice solid PI workout Sunday, and my evacuation down 33 flights of stairs yesterday at the office, tells me I have some work to do still...
I am gonna try and do some riding with you Choogerland peeps, since I'll be spending more time down in the SW quadrant.
I am hoping that I can finally do a race. SECTS starting next week for me since this week I will be in Austin. Then I am hoping I will do Huntsville and maybe Waco but not sure on that one.
Last Wednesday at SECTS: Been Harvey rebuilding so almost didn't go, but a window of opportunity allowed me to put my race wheels on - didn't have time to swap out the 48t for a 42t, and couldn't shift into the biggest cog in back, but who cares it's going to be a good workout. At the line, a previously agreed to hole shot challenge for margaritas was confirmed. The whistle blows and I was on it hard. Beat all of 'em like children. I even held the lead for a bit for no real reason - it looked like three of us had a gap, but I had no intention of sustaining that pace and backed off toward the back of the course. I slowed right down and during lap 2 the leaders of the B race passed me. Then one of those guys rolled his tubbie, so I stopped with him and was trying to give him my wheel. He then decided against it and told me to go race my race. I wasn't super racy, but after that, I got a little idea to just keep the pace relatively high to get the workout in. This was the first time I had been on a bike since the last crit, two Wednesday's before the hurricane. My HR averaged 185 and every time I looked down, it was 190 or 192 until I backed it off a bit. Had a great race with TJ who I had chased down and passed (heckling him a bit accusing him of braking in the slippery stuff). He went away for awhile, but just before the beginning of the last lap, he caught me at the barriers. I blocked him out, and instead of remounting, I kept running, blocking him for the entire chicane system until the start/finish. It was kind of a blast, being a jerk - in good fun, of course. Then I died and let him go. I got my margaritas that evening.
So who will be at SECTS tonight? I may even see if I can get a hall pass for after race ritas. I have been off and on training depending on travel/Harvey/work so I genuinely don't know where I am right now but will certainly make sure to give it my all.
As fate would have it, I have to be out that way so I am a solid maybe. Show me where to park and whatnot.
Who's going to the Hill Top Ranch race(s) this coming weekend (14/15 Oct)? I am thinking of doing the very auld pharts race on Saturday morning.
I guess I should register! It's a fun course. I was out there this weekend helping a bit. Do NOT endo on the BMX track. It will be easy to go OTB if you don't control your speed. It's like it WANTS to fk you up. Wise auld pharts will be on the brakes.
Well, wise is as wise does, so I'm probably not wise. I'm never a proponent for MTB's at a CX race unless you're just getting started. I think there's enough straight-ish to take advantage of the bigger gearing of a CX bike.
I think because, from my perspective, the promotion for this race has been quite poor... I haven't seen one promotional item for it whether at a shop, on Facebook or Instagram. In fact the only reason i know it's going on is because of this thread.
